About the League of Women Voters of Lafayette

The League of Women Voters of the United States was founded by Carrie Chapman Catt, a leader in the suffrage movement more than 100 years ago.   The League of Women Voters of Lafayette is  a non-partisan, non-profit volunteer organization working in the Lafayette area on civic engagement since 1945.  Its members also belong to the state and national levels of the League of Women Voters.  The League includes a diversity of volunteers representing different genders, ages and ethnicities.

The League believes efficient and economical government requires

  • competent personnel
  • clear assignment of responsibilities
  • adequate funding
  • coordination among levels of government
  • effective enforcement
  • well-defined channels for citizen input and review
The League promotes an open governmental system that is representative, accountable and responsive.

The League of Women Voters does not support political candidates.  Members work to

  • encourage informed, active participation in government
  • increase understanding of public policy issues
  • influence public policy through education and advocacy.

The Lafayette League seeks new members (of any gender) to join our continuing effort to educate ourselves and inform our community. Go to lwv-lafayette.org, or drop us a line at: contact@lwv-lafayette.org
